China's Largest Anthocyanin Production Base Settled in South Harbin

Recently, the anthocyanin production base of Harbin HIT-ZHONGAO Biological Engineering Co., Ltd., jointly established by HIT and a pharmaceutical enterprise, has resumed construction in South Harbin New Industrial Town. This base is currently the largest anthocyanin production base in China, which will mainly use such cold region nuts and berries as blueberries and red pinecones for extraction of super antioxidants like anthocyanin and pine polyphenols that are used to produce expensive high-end nutritional healthcare products. Trial production is expected to start in August this year.

It is learned that this base is located in the food park of South Harbin New Industrial Town, covering an area of 35,000 square meters, able to produce 100 tons of high-purity anthocyanin and 20 tons of pine polyphenols per year. After its designed production capacity is fulfilled, the expected additional sales revenue will be RMB 230 million Yuan.

It is introduced by the Project's General Manager Yu Sheng that anthocyanin, known as "Oral Skin Cosmetics", can not only prevent premature wrinkles but also supplement nutrients and eliminate the harmful free radicals in the body, and is an internationally recognized super antioxidant. Pine polyphenols have many biological functions such as anti-radiation, anti-oxidation and cardio-cerebrovascular disease control, with the same ingredients of Pycnogenol, the most popular anti-aging healthcare product in the world.

Yu Sheng says that "Currently, anthocyanin, with purity of 36%, is about RMB3 million Yuan per ton internationally." It is a pity that the pomace left after blueberries are processed into juice is mostly used for food development and the pinecones with pine nuts removed are mostly burned directly. The base will develop such core technologies as grinding, ultrasonic extraction, separation, and concentration, vacuum freeze drying into extract high-quality high-purity anthocyanin and pipe polyphenols from the recycled blueberry pomace and pinecones; then convert them into high-end healthcare products to considerably increase their added value.
