Jilin Meteorite Museum

Situated at the south bank of beautiful Songhua River, Jilin Meteorite Museum is the only one in China. The museum collections mainly came from well-known Jilin Meteorite Shower, a world's rare meteorite shower fell in Yongji County, north suburb of Jilin City, Jilin Province, at 15:02:36 on March 8, 1976.    

The meteorite shower covered land scope of 500 square kilometers and produced 138 meteorite specimens with a total weight of more than 2,700 kg. Of them, the the largest No. 1 meteorite has a weight of 1,770 kg. The museum collects most of meteorite specimens in Jilin and 41 ones from other countries and territories. The museum presents 'Jilin meteorite shower exhibition' to introduce the space and meteorites knowledge in five aspects, such as overview of the universe, the solar system members, origin of meteorites, Jilin meteorite shower, and researches of meteorite.
