Ice World Event Opens in Macau

The integrated resort has invited ice artists from northern Chinese city of Harbin, which hosts the annual Harbin Ice Festival, to create a series of sculptures and statues at Macau’s Cotai Expo.

These will include a range of sculptures depicting characters from DreamWorks movies, including Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar.

Alongside the artworks will be a giant Christmas tree, an ice rink, Christmas markets and nightly 3-D light and sound shows.

“Ice World is becoming an annual tradition and signature event at The Venetian Macao,” said Edward Tracy, president & CEO of Sands China Ltd, which operates the Venetian Macao.

“Our last two exhibitions were immensely popular, with more visitors than we had even anticipated. Adding the magic of the DreamWorks Experience at Cotai Strip Resorts to this year’s event brings in a fun new element for our visitors to enjoy.”

Ice World is Asia’s biggest indoor ice event, covering more than 1,600m². To ensure the exhibits don’t melt in the Macau heat, the Cotai Expo hall is chilled to -8⁰C, and visitors are able to rent or purchase thick coats and shoes.

The exhibition will be open to the public daily from now until 16 March 2014.
