Transcontinental Rail Line Opens in Shenyang, Northeast China

The city of Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province, is now served by an 11,000-kilometer freight railway line that stretches all the way to Hamburg, Germany, starting from the city of Maizhouli, on the Russian border.

There was an opening ceremony, on Oct 30, with officials, diplomats and business representatives taking part. The travel time between the two cities has been cut to 12 - 14 days, cutting two-thirds of the time of shipping.

The new railway line helps meet the growing demands of export companies who look for efficiency and convenience. It also allows Shenyang to benefit from European market connections, especially local companies.
